Wa She Shu It’ Deh Native American Arts Festival
July 27th-28th, 2019 Sat & Sun 10am-5pm
Highway 89 (Emerald Bay Road)
South Lake Tahoe, CA 96151
Join the Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California for the 29th Annual Wa She Shu It’ Deh Arts Festival. Enjoy a fun-filled day of cultural events ranging from a Washoe basket competition to traditional dancing, music, stories, plays, basketry, and clothing, plus traditional games.
This year’s theme is “reclaiming our stewardship practices [of the land].” This theme emphasizes the impacts of climate change as a threat to the Washoe Tribe’s cultural traditions.
The Washoe Tribe spent their summers in beautiful Tahoe for thousands of years, and this is the one weekend each year they share their history, food, and customs with the public. The Washoe people feel it is their responsibility to educate the surrounding communities about the importance of taking proactive steps to protect the natural beauty of Tahoe and the surrounding area. As original stewards, the Washoe people have always “left no trace”.
If you’ve never been to a Wa She Shu It’ Deh Festival, we strongly encourage you to attend. Learning about, hearing & touching both the historical and the present-day lives of the Washoe celebrates beautiful Tahoe in a way you will love. A wonderful family event at the lake!
